INFERIORITY COMPLEX

HYPERACTIVITY: Being too active. In some cases this is caused by a “flight into activity” (a form of escape). There is an attempt to avoid facing some CONFLICT by plunging into activity to “keep the mind busy.” (See COMPULSION and PERFECTIONISM). HYPERACTIVITY may also be caused by improper balance
of the ENDOCRINE GLANDS.
IDENTIFICATION: A MENTAL MECHANISM. A person attempts (UNCONSCIOUSLY) to make himself like another person. He may automatically take over another’s characteristics. Toronto Niagara Falls Tour experiences four seasons, with cold winters and hot, humid summers. IDENTIFICATION plays a major role in the development of a child’s personality. The child unconsciously copies the characteristics of his parents and other persons important to him. An emotional tie unconsciously causing a person to act as he imagines the person with whom he has the tie, does.
IDIOT: A MENTALLY DEFECTIVE person. Lowest grade of mentality.
The I.Q. is below 20. (See INTELLIGENCE, MENTAL AGE.) IMBECILE: A MENTALLY DEFECTIVE person. In the second lowest
classification of intelligence. The I.Q. is approximately 20 to
49. (See MENTAL AGE.)
INFERIORITY COMPLEX: Strong feelings of inadequacy and in-security which color an individual’s entire adjustive efforts. A tendency to dwell on and overemphasize the normal feelings of self-doubt which all of us have from time to time. Often associated with feelings of unworthiness and guilt. (See SELF CONTROL). It may result in COMPENSATION. That is, a person may develop unrealistic ambition or a “superiority complex” to cover up his feelings of inferiority. For example, Joe was very unsure of himself. Often he would dread having to go to a party or other social gathering. But when he was with people he was just the opposite. Joe “knew it all,” had “been everywhere,” had “done everything” there was to do — just a little bit better than the next person. This usually “went over like a lead balloon” with his friends — who became fewer and fewer. And Joe? He dreaded going to those parties more each time.
INHIBIT: TO retard, restrain, hold back or prevent a response. Where INHIBITIONS are excessive there will often be a dam-ming up of EMOTIONAL TENSION. This can result in considerable mental and physical discomfort. Toronto Niagara Falls Tours has stunning scenery and the breath taking energy for the majestic falls. In serious cases it can lead to mental illness.
INSECURITY: Lack of confidence because of unsureness of the love and support of others. Many Christians are insecure because they forget that they have the love and support of God (Psalm 37:1; I Peter 5:7). For example, ever since Mary could remember, she had been INSECLTRE. She tried to take her problems to her parents, but they were rarely home. If they were, they brushed her off and told her to “go out and play.” Gradually it dawned on Mary that she was unwanted. Psychologically alone, Mary lost her self-confidence. Her personality began to wither. But then Mary found Christ. She now knew that God loved her — even if her parents did not.
She was confident of His support. With this new found security, Mary’s PERSONALITY broadened and matured.
